I am Iain, The Salvage Hacker, working in my own design studio and workshop making sustainable, bespoke furniture, large structures such as outhouses and railway carriages, and unique decor items. Catering for both residential and commercial needs in the wonderful Milton Keynes community, I am a self-confessed, junk obsessed crafter with a unique vision and skills that come from the heart.

My inspiration started as a child growing up in rural Scotland. I would build dens and ‘time machines’ on the moors out of wood and junk. I was always fascinated by archaeology when growing up and this passion teamed with my love of re-purposing resulted in me becoming known as The Salvage Hacker. I have a knack for seeing the beauty in unloved objects and transforming them into something individual and distinctive. I am resourceful and my projects evolve organically. I continually make adjustments and tweaks during the duration of the build until I am happy that it matches my client’s vision which can be as wild as you like!

Maverick

This is Maverick my workhorse and main mode of transport! The fact that I’ve been given the opportunity to use him in the first place is a miracle and possibly Milton Keynes worst kept secret… This handsome beast is an electrically assisted e-cargo bike, which has been provided by the amazing team at Get Around MK and Milton Keynes Council. From transporting my arsenal of tools to moving renovated furniture or the odd bit of garden machinery for elderly allotmenters, there’s not much I haven’t used this battleship for during the 2000 miles I’ve racked up…

I have developed a crazy fun creative space to work in where I can switch seamlessly from creating furniture, designing inside and outside spaces and working on art projects. I can turn my hand to both small and large, ambitious projects whilst retaining authenticity and a raw edge.

If I can see it, I can build it.

Lolly Marlborough

“Iain has helped us turn our dreams into reality with a number of bespoke projects. He’s changed and re-worked a 3 seater sofa into a corner sofa (super clever!) and he’s built a stunning outdoor bar, all with reclaimed wood. He creates the perfect art piece, all with a listening ear and a smile”.
